Are you an INFJ (the Protector / Advocate / Counselor)?

in a secret garden at twilight, one figure is guiding another with a lantern

Your natural gifts make you:

  • Empathetic
  • Generous
  • Authentic
  • Intuitive
  • Perceptive

Common challenges:

  • Self-judgment, low confidence
  • Anxiety, hyper-vigilance
  • Losing sense of self
  • Isolating, keeping others out
  • Neglecting self-care

You carry a lantern for others. But who helps you find your own way—so you get the deep nourishment you deserve?

  • You're a natural therapist or counselor. People know they can come to you when they want to feel truly seen and heard. You have an almost psychic ability to intuitively understand what's happening for someone beneath the surface. Often, you understand people better than they do themselves.
  • But, you tend to give too much of yourself. You're usually more focused on what other people need—not only out of empathy or generosity, but also because tracking other people's needs and moods helps you feel safe. It can take you a while to realize that you've neglected your own health, energy, or happiness, and then you feel drained.
  • You might be a great speaker or performer, but you really need alone time to recharge afterward. Many INFJ's are drawn to creatively expressing themselves (e.g., through dance, art, public speaking, or storytelling). But, after the performance, it's critically important for you to have a "nest" to retreat to (usually, one that you've thoughtfully decorated and filled with comfortable objects).
  • It's very nourishing for you to have deep, complex conversations with people you trust. You want to feel understood and authentically met. But, you might feel lonely a lot since it can be hard to find people capable of the level of depth you're looking for. In the meantime, you can be closed off and slow to open up and trust people.
  • You feel emotions strongly, but you're also an analytical thinker. Even though you're a Feeler, you might be quite good with a spreadsheet. You can feel torn between your heart and your head, overthinking things ("how do people see me?" or "how can I fix this person's problem?"). Sometimes, it feels like no matter how hard you try, you're still not getting things done and making the progress you want toward your dreams.

Still not sure this is you? Here are some tips to confirm your personality type.

INFJ Tip #1:

You're so sensitive to the needs of people around you that you can easily feel overwhelmed or drained.

So, allow yourself to create a beautiful, safe nesting place to return to when you're feeling low.

When you're around others, pay close attention to your energy level so you retreat before completely running out of fuel (it's ok to prioritize your own needs!).

Then, recharge by doing something to express yourself creatively (create art, dance, etc.).

INFJ Tip #2:

To mature your Fe function, practice asking for support.

Notice if you're retreating or hiding and making up stories that no one would be able to relate to you, or that you're letting people down by taking care of yourself, or that you should change yourself for the sake of others.

Instead, make a list of people who you know would want to be there for you when you need them. Then, next time you're feeling down, could you ask for their help?

You see it all so clearly inside. Living it out there is the part that's never come as easily.

Most INFJs I work with already understand themselves at a deep level. You’ve spent a long time reflecting, journaling, reading, and trying to make sense of your inner world—and much of that understanding is real and hard-won.

Where things tend to get difficult isn’t insight. It’s staying connected to yourself while actually living your life: making decisions, setting boundaries, navigating relationships, and responding to constant demands without slowly burning out or going numb.

My work with INFJs isn’t about fixing you or making you "less sensitive." It’s about helping you protect what’s subtle, meaningful, and perceptive in you—while still being able to function, choose, and engage in a world that doesn’t naturally slow down for depth.

If you’d like support that’s thoughtful, grounded, and tailored to how you actually operate, you can learn more about working with me below.

INFJs I work with tend to struggle with three core challenges:

If those sound painfully familiar, you’re not broken. They're predictable patterns I see in INFJs I work with every day.

I'm a Transformation Coach & Existential Counselor who specializes in INFJs like you

I’ve coached hundreds of people across 6 continents—from Fortune 500 leaders, startup founders, and influencers with millions of followers, to creatives, deep thinkers, and people who felt completely stuck and unsure what to do next.

I also regularly work with people who hold a variety of identities: LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, atheist, various relationship orientations (ENM, poly, RA, etc.).

(I'll share more about me and my own journey further down the page.)

" I was full of self-hatred and anxiety, and I had trouble trusting most of my relationships.
I felt like I had to curate myself to be accepted by others.

I’m so amazed by the profound impact this work has had on me. The biggest surprise for me has been that I feel less bored in conversations now.

I feel like I can trust people more, and I’m much more at ease in being truly vulnerable rather than having to play a certain role for them. "

I'm Michael, a coach who helps INFJs transform

Michael standing in front of a warm wood-panneled wall smiling at the camera

I spent most of my 20's and early 30's waiting for my "real life" to start.

I had been completely stuck in my head and out of touch with my feelings and needs. I had no idea how to ask for what I needed to feel deeply nourished. I knew that I hated surface-level conversations, but I didn't understand how to create something different. So, I ended up just judging other people as shallow instead and feeling disconnected and lonely.

I finally couldn't take it anymore, so I devoted three years to pushing myself outside my comfort zone to transform my life. I learned a lot about setting boundaries, knowing what I need to feel energized and driven, and finding the right balance between my analytical mind and my embodied emotions.

I created my life purpose, made some dramatic changes to myself and my lifestyle, and finally began to understand what self-love and authentic aliveness feel like.

I'd like to help you feel that too.

I've been trusted by people at:

What do the top people in every field have in common?

I've worked with Fortune 500 leaders, an Academy Award-winning director, a Mount Everest record holder, and some of the most famous video game designers in the industry.

And I'd like to share a secret with you:

The most successful people get help when they're struggling.

They might look perfect on the outside, but I've seen firsthand that they're grappling with their own challenges—from self-doubt and impostor syndrome to depression and anxiety.

They still hit barriers that they have trouble getting past on their own. And top performers know that they need to put the oxygen mask on themselves first before they're able to most effectively help others.

Just like star athletes benefit from coaching, the top people in every field hire experts to help them improve.

I'd like to help you too.

Our types are a natural fit

I'm an ENTP, so I have two of your cognitive functions (Fe and Ti) but in a different order.

In other words, I get people like you, but I'm also different enough to provide a different way of seeing things. In fact, ENTP's and INFJ's are famously two of the best-matched types.

I struggled for years with different coaches and therapists. The one who finally helped me change my life was a fellow 'N' who spoke my language.

She saw me in a way that few others ever had in my life, and she challenged my beliefs that had held me back for a decade.

It was like a set of dominoes—those coaching sessions eventually set into motion dramatic shifts in virtually every aspect of my life.

I'd like to earn your trust, as I have with these INFJs:

Michael sitting on steps

Perhaps you are a person who gets sucked into tunnel vision and struggles to remain present and enjoy the process without obsessing over future outcomes. A person who wishes you had a translator for your own thoughts.

If so, time spent with Michael may be just what you need. His gentle, open-minded insights make him the perfect sounding board for intuitive persons who face the daily struggle of feeling misunderstood.

Michael has helped me to examine my own thought patterns and motivations more objectively. He is a truly gifted counselor, and time with him has proved to be a valuable step toward acquiring deeper self-knowledge.

—Nurse, turned photographer & sustainable garden designer

I feel lucky to have Michael on my team. We started working together as I was planning a life transition. He supported me by guiding me past self-doubt and into my body's natural sense of where it wants to go — clarity.

In our ongoing work, Michael provides open-ended perspectives on situations that I can tend to see as more closed-off. He has so many tools, resources, and experiences that give me confidence that he can add a lot to my journey. Our sessions give me a boost and let me step forward with some really healthy attitudes.

—Software Developer, turned yoga teacher & entrepreneur

I want to name that our work together has had a dramatic, tangible impact on my life.

Working with other coaches and therapists before has been helpful, but you’ve given me something significantly different. You’ve changed my life in a very real way and set me on an entirely new path. I’ll be forever grateful.

—Librarian turned psychotherapist

When I first started seeing you, I was full of self-hatred and anxiety, and I had trouble trusting most of my relationships.

Interested in coaching that's customized for YOUR type of mind?

Here's How This Works:

I've put a lot of thought into the most logical, fair, and ethical way to price my services.

Conversations about money tend to bring out a lot of feelings (on both sides), and I want to approach that complexity with the nuance and care it deserves.

(If you're curious, I wrote a whole philosophical article where I break down in detail how I arrived at this set of policies.)

My Model:

  • Free sample session: no risk, no contract, real coaching

Let’s check if we’re the right fit for a fruitful ongoing relationship. This isn’t a sales call. I won’t pitch you some special 6-week program to change your life. I’ll give you actual coaching on a real challenge you’re facing.

  • Sliding scale: $97 - $297 USD per session

Same service at multiple price points based on need (honor system, no proof required). This allows me to offer lower-priced coaching to people who couldn't otherwise afford it. My peers with similar credentials typically charge $200 - $500 per session.

  • It’s not you vs. me — it’s us figuring it out as a team

You’re a unique, complex human. Not sure where you fall on my sliding scale? Let’s have an authentic conversation to figure out what’s fair to both of us. There's also a guide below on how to choose what to pay.

  • Flexible scheduling, typically 2-4 sessions per month

We can meet at a regular day/time or just find the next time that works for both of us. Cadence is up to you, and we can also adjust over time.

  • You're in charge — you're not locked into anything

Most coaches require signing up for package deals. But I highly value freedom, so I want you to feel empowered to pay just one session at a time and stop whenever you like.

What You Get By Working With Me:

  • A detailed questionnaire to help me know you and to help you dig deep and get crystal clear on your goals for coaching.
  • This isn't one-size-fits-all. I'll customize my coaching style based on your unique mind and life experiences, and I'll bring in techniques from whichever of my modalities would best serve you (Co-Active coaching, Hakomi counseling, Zen Buddhism, etc.).
  • You'll have access to me via email between sessions (e.g., if you'd like me to review your resume or answer a time-sensitive question). I might also share worksheets, articles, or podcasts that make me think of you.
  • Questions? Check out my FAQ below the pricing table. P.S. When considering a coach or therapist, I often find it valuable to hear what they sound like. You can get a sense of me from my YouTube channel.

My Sliding Scale:

Below are my rates for a 50-minute session. Many life situations aren't perfectly covered here, so please do your best to pick what feels closest to yours. (Also, this isn't a value judgment — just an attempt to find a fair exchange amidst complexity.)

Remember: You don't have to figure this out right now. The first sample session is free, and we can talk about it if you're not sure where you fall.

  • Standard Rate A: $297

You earn over $175K USD/year (or, you have substantial savings / passive income / other assets). Or, your company will be paying for this.

  • Standard Rate B: $197

You earn over $120K USD/year (or, you or your family owns property / other significant assets, or you regularly spend $200+ on non-necessities without needing to save up)

  • Reduced Rate: $147

    You earn under $120K USD/year

  • Special Rate: $97

You earn under $60K USD/year (and you have very little disposable income)

P.S. If paid coaching doesn't fit into your current financial situation, some of my no-cost offerings include my blog and my YouTube channel (which I update most frequently).

A 3-Video Path for INFJs Who Feel Deeply—and Who Feel Tired of Carrying So Much

If you only watch three of my videos, start with these, in this order (each builds on the last, from understanding what’s really happening, to gently changing how you relate to your inner world):

  • Why Feelings Are So Precious & Fragile for Analytical Thinkers
If you’re highly sensitive and thoughtful, emotions can feel powerful—and easily overwhelming. This video will help you understand why that’s not a flaw, and how to protect what’s actually valuable in you instead of hardening or shutting down.

  • The Key Misconception Stopping You from Overcoming Negative Thoughts
Many INFJs try to process pain by thinking more deeply about it. This video explains why that often backfires—and what actually helps when insight alone isn’t enough.

  • Guided Meditation for Skeptical Overthinkers: Try This 1 Anchor
This isn’t about "emptying your mind" or becoming calm. It’s a short, grounded experiment to help you reconnect with yourself directly—without analysis, fixing, or spiritual performance.

  • Watch those videos in order (most INFJs get the most value that way). And if those resonate, please consider subscribing to my channel.
